Sonia Gupta
Director & Head Principal
Sonia Gupta is a seasoned education leader shaping a modern, purpose-driven model of learning that is grounded in leadership, human connection, and long-term student success. As Director and Head Principal of Sunray Academy of Canada—co-founder alongside Ray Gupta—Sonia leads with a clear belief: When learning is intentional, globally connected, and student-centred, students move from potential to purpose.
A professional educator, Sonia brings more than 20 years of experience across secondary and postsecondary education. She holds a Bachelor of Education from Western University, following her graduation with distinction from Western’s Bachelor of Science program, and is a certified specialist in both Mathematics and Special Education.

This strong academic foundation informs her disciplined approach to Leadership in Learning, ensuring students are structured, accountable, and have high academic standards while developing their confidence and independence.
Sonia has taught students from high school to higher education and provided leadership to fellow educators, including work with the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Education. Through this breadth of experience, she developed a defining philosophy: Teachers are not only in the teaching business—they are in the relationship business. This belief underpins Sunray Academy of Canada’s relationship-centred Connected Learning Culture, where educators, and students and their families, are actively supported and meaningfully engaged.
Under Sonia’s leadership, Sunray Academy of Canada is designed to Illuminate Potential—through personalized pathways, inclusive and differentiated instruction that is accessibility oriented, and a leading emphasis on student well-being—alongside academic and personal achievements. She is deeply attuned to the evolving needs of education in 2026 and beyond, including educator sustainability, leadership development, and preparing students for postsecondary success in a rapidly changing world.
Sonia leads with structure, care, and long-term intent. She views education as a shared responsibility and understands that trust and credibility in education are built through leadership, relationships, integrity, and time.
